Ancient City of Sigiriya

Sigiriya (Lion's rock) is an ancient rock fortress and palace ruin situated in a central district of Sri Lanka. A popular tourist destination, Sigiriya is also renowned for its ancient paintings (frescos). The Sigiriya was built during the reign of King Kassapa I(AD 477 – 495), and it is one of the seven World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka.

Jordan Staircase, Hermitage

The Jordan Staircase is the main starcase of the Winter Palace of Hermitage in St Petersburg. Starting from the Main Gallery, the white marble staircase then divides into two flights meeting again on the level of the first floor. Full of light and gleaming with gilding and mirrors, the staircase extends for the whole height of the Winter Palace. In the 18th century the staircase was known as the Ambassadorial Staircase because the envoys of foreign countries ascended it when going to the palace for official receptions. Later the staircase received the name of the Jordan Staircase - on the Epiphany day religious processions from the Grand Church of the Winter Palace went down the Jordan Staircase to the Neva River.

Pillnitz palace, in the east of Dresden, is an extraordinary ensemble of architecture and landscape gardening, set in the river landscape in front of the vineyards of the Elbe valley.  The palace and gardens were build as the summer house for the Electors of Saxony.

Danish cuisine

This is the lunch of the modern refined style of Danish cuisine I had at Restaurant Snekken in the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. The museum and the restaurant have a nice view of  Roskilde Fjord.

Temple of Artemis, Jerash

Jerash, a city in northern Jordan, is famous for its Roman ruins, which I think is one of the most well reserved remains of ancient Rome and therefore popular for tourists. This photo is of the Temple of Artemis at the Jerash's archaeological site. Although its ceiling is missed, beautiful columns remain impressive.
